Like EeyoreIsReal, many participants on Pixilart express concern about the consequences the election might have for themselves or their friends who are racial minorities. The responses on Pixilart are very emotionally laden, both in terms of content and tone; for example, âWHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY FRIENDS NOW??? JACIE, SHANTEL? NOOOOOOOOOO.â Concern about racism, including in school contexts, is strong. As 12-year-old Cocoapuff the Strange posted: âweâre all screwed. iâm trying to be respectful of those who like trump, but one of his supporters just said iâm an illegal:0.â
Within the context of racism-related fears, many posters mentioned Trumpâs campaign promise about building a wall with Mexico. This issue seemed to particularly resonate with youth on Pixilart, and was the most frequent theme in creative content posted (e.g. Figure 8.4).
Disappointment around the loss of Hillary Clinton was connected by participants to concern and fear about personal implications. On November 11, Cocoa-puff the Strange posted a drawing of Clinton, which included the words âRIP Hillary, you put up a good fightâ (Figure 8.5). In the comments on that image, Ruby Loves Beans writes that she is Mexican American and her parents âthink itâs a good idea to moveâ in the wake of the election results. She continues, âi might have to move, but i really dont wanna because all my friends and my family are here, but in the same time i also do wanna move because Trump will make America even worse than it is now.â
